Dr. John Vidmar

Dr. John Vidmar is the Chief Operating Officer of NGK Biologix and Chief Technology Officer of Nutraponics Canada Corp. NGK biologix has applied to Health Canada, as a licensed producer under Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations. As CTO of Nutraponics, John is responsible technology development in the production of high quality food using aquaponics in a sustainable manner. Aquaponics is an integrated growing system that produces fish, fine herbs, and leafy green vegetables. John has worked in agricultural research for over 20 years. He was senior scientist and genomics team lead at Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures, where his worked focused on the improvement, evaluation and breeding of both Cannabis sativa (food and fibre) and barley. John holds a Ph.D. in Botany from the University of British Columbia, where he worked on plant nutrition and assimilation in barley. He then spent 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow at INRA, Montpellier, France, working on regulation of nitrogen and sulfur transport and metabolism in plants. In 2000, John joined AITF working as a NSERC industrial postdoctoral fellow in collaboration with plant biotech start-up company (Agrigenomics) working on nitrogen use efficiency in canola. Subsequently, appointed as a staff scientist, he has developed a research team working on the use of applied genomics on industrial hemp and feed barley for agriculture.
